Chicago District Tennis Association (CDTA) is partnering with the Chicago Park District (CPD) in 5 parks in the city to introduce high quality USTA instruction as part of the day camp activities. We are excited to offer this tennis instruction to some children who might not otherwise be introduced to the game. The program will run for 6 weeks beginning on June 25. The 5 parks participating in this first-year pilot are: Welles, Peterson, Hollywood, Warren, and River. More than 80 total hours of instruction/week will be provided across the 5 parks. Groups of 20-40 campers will rotate through tennis instruction for 2- 4 hours every day. CDTA will provide staff at 4 parks one day/week; given the size of enrollment at Welles Park, there will be 2 days of instruction/week at that location. In addition, CDTA will participate in training of all of CPD’s camp counselors, allowing them to gain some ability to provide tennis activities during non-instruction time periods. CDTA instructors will also train counselors at the 5 camps during the instruction period so they are equipped to promote tennis during non-instruction time periods. Participants will range in age from 6 to 15. CDTA is providing this instruction at no cost to the CPD; in exchange, CPD is providing CDTA limited access to use the courts during non-camp times. The tennis instruction will be free of charge to families of the camp; there is no additional fee added on to the camp registration.
